Halloween is a very ancient festivity which is celebrated on the 31st of October. Traditionally linked to the English speaking world, the Westernalisation as well as globalisation turned it into a celebration accessible to any kind of country. The origin of this festival though is controversial, but probably common to other Celtic and Roman celebrations, a mix of feasts which were corresponding to the Samhain, the Celtic new year’s eve, the Latin feasts dedicated to Pomona and the celebrations of the long gone ancestors called Parentalia.

It is interesting to see that in the English culture even in the past, the celebration of Halloween was highly recognised, and by dressing up children in the schools and having it a bit everywhere, the feast was nationally celebrated.

In this following collection there are 26 pictures coming from the 30’s with costumes, gadgets and American locations of one century ago. It is possible to appreciate how the children were dressed up as ghosts or monsters and how the adults were turning the festival funny and spread across the whole country.
